Gui-tar He-ro with stars in his eye

Written by John on September 10th, 2009

Surviving members of Nirvana Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic are PO’ed that their late bandmate Kurt Cobain’s likeness’ has popped up in Guitar Hero 5. Players have reportedly been using the ani’bain to front the likeness of bands Bon Jovi and Bush.

Isn’t the real tragedy, however, the fact that Guitar Hero remains so popular? I mean, for the price of the video game and one or two controllers, you could, I don’t know, buy an actual guitar and learn to freakin’ play!?

In other news, skeletal R&B diva Whitney Houston isn’t dead.

But guitar strings feel gross on my fingers. And Guitar Hero is so easy. And there’s an audience cheering you on. And pretty colors.

Learning how to play the guitar requires patience and perseverance which most people (including myself) don’t have much of, while Guitar Hero (which btw I’ve never played) sounds like it provides the instant gratification and validation that most people crave and (in my humble opinion) have become addicted to. Face it John, if you didn’t already know how to play the guitar you too would be Guitar Hero’s bitch ;)

I also have never played Guitar Band Hero Nirvana Rocksplosionquest Beatlebots, but have nothing against the concept of these games in themselves.

But when you factor in the $200 or more for the game system and the $$$ for the game and its attendant “instruments,” it starts to get prohibitively expensive to play around.

Then again, it can take years of practice and gigging to get to the point of battling the Devil on electric guitar in real life, when it apparently only takes a few hours in Guitar Hero.
